Excellent Product, But Has Some Basic Design Flaws This shredder is an excellent product, but I could not in good conscience give it a higher rating. I bought this product based upon its AmazonBasics ranking and on-line specifications. After about 2 months of use, here are my sincere thoughts:PRO’s — Very powerful motor takes on the most difficult shredding tasks with ease. Runs a long time without over-heating. — Significantly better than average user controls and machine status indicators. — Included wheels are easily removable for those who want such a machine to stay in its place.CON’s — Emptying shredded paper bin is EXTREMELY difficult because the wide from machine cover is attached to the smaller width bin. — Input paper slot is only 8-1/2 inches wide. Most other shredders in this machine’s class accept at least 9-inch or wider paper. — Access to shredder mechanism for period oiling is EXTREMELY difficult.BOTTOM LINE: Very good…
Shredded ~10,000 pages over 9 days without a hiccup ***UPDATE: 5 months after purchase, this has never jammed once. The $2,000 shredder at the office jams every day. I shred about 100-200 pages a day, 5 days a week. I remain amazed that this has not jammed even once. I shred about 20 pages at a time, continually. I use the sharpening sheets about once or twice a month. If you are on the fence about which shredder to buy, this shredder should be your first choice.***My shredding backed up quite a bit because I work from home and trips to my office downtown just to drop off shredding were inconvenient. So, by the time this shredder was delivered I had about 10,000 pages to shred. It took me a few hours every day to shred the backlog, about 20 pages at a time, for 9 days. This machine worked like a champ. No jams, no shutting down, everything shredded. I had no trouble at all placing the paper in the slot because the built up edges around the slot guide the paper effortlessly to where it needs to go. I bought the Staples…
Lasted just six weeks before the gears stripped out I bought this shredder for my home office. Just six weeks after purchase, the gears stripped out. Danny, the very rude young man who took my call at Amazon Basics customer service, immediately blamed me for not counting the sheets of paper I put into the machine, talked to me like I was an idiot. After I brought it to his attention that I do in fact know how to count, he persisted in going on about folded sheets in envelopes. Fortunately, the machine is still under warranty, so I should be able to obtain a replacement (after sending in my proof of purchase and the cord from the machine). We’ll see if the replacement machine performs any better. Frankly, I doubt it will. There are also two design flaws. While there is a window in the front of the bin that shows you when the bin is about 3/4 full, there is no sensor to alert you when it is completely full and must be emptied (in contrast to my last shredder, which was at the same price point and did have this feature)…
